World Toe Wrestling Championships 2019
Показать описание
Right then, toe wrestling. Imagine arm wrestling, but instead of using your arms, you're locking toes. Yes, bare feet, toes intertwined, and the objective is to pin the other chap's foot down. If that doesn’t sound peculiar enough, it’s not uncommon for players to delight in the ritual of removing their opponent's shoes and socks beforehand. Charming, isn’t it?
Now, this bizarre little sport was born in Staffordshire, England, back in 1976. A group of lads down at the Ye Olde Royal Oak Inn fancied a bit of fun and wanted something where the Brits could absolutely dominate. Toe wrestling, for reasons beyond me, became the chosen activity. And there it was — a brand-new tradition that soon gained popularity in Northern England. The competition consists of three rounds, right foot first, then left, and finishing with the right again. Yes, there’s even a championship, with separate categories for men and women.
Fast forward over 40 years and toe wrestling is still very much a thing. Although the International Olympic Committee hasn’t deemed it worthy of inclusion (I can’t imagine why), this curious pastime continues to attract attention worldwide.
