Weirdest City of the West Coast | Portland, OR

There are some pretty bizarre or peculiar locations that we've visited on the Coverage Project. Yet I had long become intrigued by a city which on its own volition characterizes itself as extremely quirky. Some advise you not to try to understand it while other implore you to indulge in its wonder. This is the current perspectival polarity of Portland: Oregon's largest urban area and a long-attested anchor of the Pacific Northwest. After a dynamic history of shifting cultural atmospheres, we find the contemporary version of this city a haven for counterculture and vibrant non-conformism. Yet as we explore, we come to find that despite its eccentric charm, there exists an unsettling underbelly worth addressing. One way or another, Portland is surely a unique destination, an almost comical outlier of the typical tropes found America's usual cities.
