It's such a shame they couldn't make these units reliable. I recently saw an old HO DC Delaware & Hudson model at a train show and fell in love, so I had to buy it. I also got a matching B Unit, which I have since been told would not have been an option for the D&H. It is may favourite Loco on my layout, and I had to learn about the real thing. Which is why I am here. Great video.

Great video. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks for sharing it. In fact I bought a set of Walthers' NYC ALCO PA-PB with ESU Loksound decoders before watching your video. I am from Spain and the parcel comes from USA and it hasn't been delivered yet but I was told that it will be delivered by this Friday. I can't wait...

Recent subscriber to channel. This may be helpful to you. I recently bought three Proto 2000 PA units. I had derailment problems on two and found the front wheelsets were slightly out of gauge. A slight twist and all three are now very reliable.

Thanks for the comparison. Have been on the fence about whether or not to pick up a Proto 2000 unit I will. 👍

My Kato N scale SP Alco PA is a great runner-heavy and dependable.

There's a guy on YouTube named elite194 that shows how to alter a six axle locomotive to not derail. He does the altercation on EMD's SD45, but it works on all three axle trucks.

I own both the Athearn and the Proto 2000. They are both good runners. I was wondering if I should get the Mainline.

No mention of the Fleischman in Warbonnet livery? That was quite popular in the 1960s. The body was cast metal. It was geared slow. But it could haul a long train.

Good doc video. However, i wish i was there to help rebuild the layout. it looks like it needs a lot of work.

Thanks for the info on the Alco, some other questions if I may. What was the difference between the PA and the FA I know the F stood for freight and the P for passenger. I remember you said in the video that the "designer of the Alco PA/F was more used to designing white metal goods, so was the long snout just a design feature or did it serve any purpose, was there anything in there that contributed to the locos running?

I am not a great diesel fan, either the US or the UK ones but I do like these Alco PAs and FAs, there is something about the long snout that makes them look interesting and stylish. I am from the UK and have managed to obtain an Athearn UP Alco PA, but the insides appear a little basic/primitive and having watched this video and others you have made I understand why. Did the Athearns ever have a working light in the nose, the one I have has a "jury" rigged home made job which bleeds light all over the place? Similarly I have yet to see an Athearn one with numbers on the number boards on the locos nose, was this another cost saving exercise? Like you I like the paint job on the NYC models but probably for different reasons, the Nickel Plate Road paint job is also quite good and I understand the NPL preserved loco is the one that Rapido scanned for their model. Walthers models are hard to come by here and to import one from the US becomes prohibitive when you add in the custom tax so I guess I will just have to hold out for a Proto 2000 NYC model and hope that one comes up on Ebay.
Great video mate, very informative keep it up!!
