I thought this 2018 Tesla Model S 100D would be a good road tripper. It has range of about 275 miles on the highway, but the charging speeds are just not what I thought they would be. I have learned that sometimes in life when you make mistakes, you need to just trade out of them quickly and move on. So, this is exactly what I am doing. I am really excited about buying a 2021 Refresh Tesla Model S after finding the right piece at the right price from Carmax. Watch this video for a bit more of an explanation, along with the trade in process/dollar amount that Carmax is willing to give me.

Tesla model S 100D 2018 is the sweet spot for EVs in my opinion 😀

2018 Model S 100D is best car I've every owned. I have 130, 000 miles and have been on long road trips. Plug in charger, go in and grab coffee, check emails, and car is charged. Too much drama in this video

Once again, Out of Spec Dave buys more cars in six months than I've owned in my entire life. Good luck with this one!

Nice one, Dave. I laughed when you said 68K is a high-mileage car. I guess it is all relative.

Dave my wife and I must have bought and traded in like 5 or 6 cars from CarMax. I have a Model 3 on order and scheduled to pick up on September 17. Tesla quoted me 7k for my 2017 Ioniq Classic hybrid. We sold the car to CarMax for 14, 500. For a used car I won't look anywhere else to buy. Gratz on the upcoming Model S.

Hey Dave, this is a vehicle that once had FSD through subscription. The subscription is no longer active and that’s why under autopilot, it says auto pilot only, not Full self driving capability either package included or subscription. Once the subscription ends, where it would say full self driving capability subscription, it then reverts back to listing autopilot only. If it were purchased it would list Full Self Driving capability, package included. Tesla does not remove the most recent version of software, and that is why FSD beta is still listed. I was interested in one that was listed in the same way and I inquired about it with Tesla and that’s what they told me. Thank you to you and Conner for the great videos. By the way, just a thought but maybe it might be best to get a quote for a trade-in before they know you’re interested in a particular vehicle. Once they know you’re interested in a vehicle, then they can offer you significantly less than anyone else due to the tax savings you will receive by trading your vehicle in with them.

Video idea: Amtrak has a train between Lorton, Virginia (near Washington DC) and Sanford, Florida (near Orlando) you can bring your vehicle on this train, would be interesting to see this versus a road trip.

Amazing video. Best of luck for the sale and the purchase of the new Model S. Can't wait to see it on your channel.

Goodness! More musical chairs with your EVs! Well… I was one who would have kept the Ioniq 5, but I will agree that any EV should have a rated range of 300+ miles. It's not that I've ever driven that far on a charge, the most has been 200 miles, but… having an extra "buffer" with the recommended 80% charge, gives peace-of-mind when and if you hit inclement weather, strong headwinds, steep climbs to a higher elevation, etc. Good luck getting your next "pony"!

I have never understood the charging speed thing. Each day I charge my Model 3P from a 52% state of charge to a 82% state of charge, and my charge rate is at 60kW at the Supercharger, and I'm completely happy with that.

You need to change your name to Dealin' Dave. I am amazed at how many cars you have owned since you began making videos with the VW id4's. I enjoyed hearing your reasoning on the changes in each car. Logical in each choice moving to the next vehicle. I am not ready for full EV due to the range as well. My 2013 Audi Q5 ICE range was 555 miles. My 2021 Audi Q5 hybrid with 14.1Kw battery has an electric range of 27 miles and the ICE range is 445 miles. During the pandemic we drove locally and my average is 83 MPG. After a road 1000 mile trip the mileage dropped to 69 MPG. I have the same questions about the value of car as I leased it. The place where I bought is selling my car used for the 5K less than the MSRP. I am leaning towards buy the car after the lease ends BUT with this video I have learned a lot about selling and buying from Carvana. Thanks Dave for making this really informative video. I enjoyed watching your drive to Carvana. Awaiting another Out of Spec DAVE video.

There was a lot of numbers and logic dropped here which I appreciated. I like your thought process of tax savings especially with the increased taxes in ct. Congrats on the new tesla and happy for you!

I chuckled when you said 68k on a 2018 was "high mileage". I have a Sept 2021 LR Model 3 with 35k miles.

Keep that Model S pristine, which means don't let Jordan drive it!

I Like the car. Thank you for the thorough review of the condition of the vehicle. Best of lick in which ever option you choose.

What'd you pay for the 100D? $70k $75k?
Probably time to think about getting a dealer's license to avoid having to take a bath on tax, title, and registration every time you decide to swap into something new.

Thanks. Great information. I don't like the yolk, but it's not my biggest issue with the refreshed Model S. It's the lack of stalk controls and tactile feel buttons and knobs. It seems like I would spend a lot more time with my eyes off the road in order to push some phantom pretend button that I won't know if I activated unless I then move my eyes someplace else which is not the road in order to confirm my choice. Has any of that been an issue for you in the new S?

Maybe you should consider the Lucid if range is your biggest need.
