Enduro Southeast: Ride Kanuga Finals

The temperatures were in the 30's most of the day and the freeze thaw was wild. Pure peanut butter mud made for no grip at all! Stage one was my best one. The conditions on it (like everything else) deteriorated significantly since practice, but I was able to keep some speed most of the time and get a good result compared to the other Pros. Stage 2 had some of the slipperiest berms I have ever been on. It didn't help the confidence so I went slower. Where the trail crosses the road, the first compression had a hole in it so you can see me do a press up on the bars, and then as I drift through the corner after the compressions, a spectator is impressed. Stage three had the worst mud on course. Due to the mud, my shifting became impaired and I had a hard time with the key pedaling sections. I went slow and had some tripod action, but didn't crash. Stage four is where I lost a significant amount of time. After my gears locked up in a key pedaling section, my front tire slipped and hit a root, causing me to crash. I made sure my bike and I were ok, then some people came up and I had to wait for them to go by. I then ended up catching up to the second person, got slowed down, and messed up trying to pass them. I likely lost over a minute on this stage. On stage five, I began feeling out of it. I tried to play it safe and not get hurt after throwing the race away on the prior stage, but ultimately had a hard time focussing on riding. I didn't get that stage on film. Marinne struggled with the conditions too but got a win on GNCC. Cam had a great ride and beat me on every stage. I may have gotten last, but it was still great seeing people and riding my bike!
