"Don't clap, she doesn't want it." spoken like a true vet

That knee-jerk “NO!” said a heck of a lot about our armed forces.😂

I’m from central Texas and in high school and in college we all told each other “just whatever you do _don’t join the Army_ ! You’ll end up at Ft. Hood and even God doesn’t show up there.”

The reason she said no to branch is that Ben already specified branch by asking who was in Army. He messed it up and caused confusion. Lol

I'm not in the Army, but I have been to Ft. Irwin to work on the solar system they have installed out there.
They scheduled my yearly maintenance visit in June, and I have to wear a full 40 Cal suit to take pictures. I lost about 5 lbs that day just working outside. And I couldn't even buy water and ice at the grocery store on base because I'm once again _not military_
I even wonder if they still have those dual axis panels on the system, about half were broken down from the 30 mph gusts and sand blowing into the open gearing.

I was stationed at Fort Sill and i found out that my next station would be at Irwin. Unironically, when i was told that i could choose if my condition would be severe enough to prevent me from completing my time in active duty (i was borderline for bone density issues) i chose to go home.
I wanted nothing to do with that place, especially given the nightmares we kept hearing about around Covid.

I currently live on Fort Irwin and I love it here. That said, I understand why other folks wouldn't; living in the back end of beyond is not for everyone.

I went to Ft Irwin twice. Once in August and once in January, both times equally sucked.

I did 5 rotations through Irwin for NTC to playing OPFOR, I hated that place. Though OPFOR was fun especially the raids.

Went through a rotation to deploy in 2007, returned in 2009 as a duty station and stayed for two years…

I avoided NTC while I was on active duty. I almost got sent twice. I got out and married my wife. Guess where she was stationed next.

Fort Irwin.

Ugh! We went to NTC when I was in the 82nd back in the 90s. To this day I'm not sure which was worse, NTC in the summer, JRTC in the winter (twice!), or JOTC in the fall (the middle of the rainy season) when it was still in Panama. My first duty station after jump school was in Panama though, so I kinda knew what to expect. Still sucked.
