Is the Seawolf Class SSN More Capable Than the Virginia Class Submarine #submarine #seawolf #shorts

In most respects, Seawolf is much more capable, overall, than Virginia. They were designed that way, because they were designed for different missions.
Seawolf has more, and larger, torpedo tubes, and a much larger torpedo load-out. I believe she has a higher tactical speed (how fast you can go and still hear.
Virginia can hang-out in littoral waters and may be quieter. Virginia may also have a better sensor suite.
Virginia also has major new changes, both in equipment and “culture”. For example, she has no periscopes, but instead uses an electronic “photonics” mast. She has lost the traditional helmsman, planesman. Instead, she has a “pilot” and “copilot”.
If we need to handle Russia’s latest SSBN or SSN, send Seawolf.
If we need to hunt a diesel or AIP submarine hanging-out inshore, send Virginia.
Of course, the only ones who actually know, aren’t talking. If they do, they should be shot, minimum.

All the torpedo tubes on US submarines are the same size. The Sea Wolves have more torpedo tubes, but the Virginias have more tomahawks.

I served on Los Angeles class subs, My step son is was and just left a Seawolf and my son has just been assigned to the Virginia... All tubes are the same on all submarines. AND no nuke should ever go after a diesel electric...you can't beat how quiet they can be... But NO you don't shoot someone talking...they just pull your clearance permanently..

this is information you can get out of any warship book... The first of its class seawolf was bad ass and I was able to check her out after sea trials.

the mere fact this is being discussed renders it not only common knowledge but obsolete as well;

It will certainly be interesting to see how the new Columbia class submarines stack up against both the Seawolf and Virginia class submarines. 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

pretty sure all submarines "hang out in literal waters"

It’s not that the Virginia class of submarines are “more capable” than Seawolf class submarines. It’s that the two classes of submarines were designed to do different things. The Virginia class submarines were designed to fight in the global war on terrorism. The Seawolf class submarines were designed to fight the Soviet Union. The Virginia class are better are some things, while the Seawolf class are better at other things.

Wasn't the Sea Wolf too expensive to be continued.

Naaah, just tow them behind the 'submerged' subs screws!
