Doesn't any school board have the authority to decide what books can or cannot be provided to students by their school staff? Free speech requires that the government can't prevent books from being published or written or made available to adults who want them. Any parent who wants their children to see or read books their school board won't provide can provide them to their own children at their own expense. What's wrong with that? That's how my parents responded when I was a kid and our public school board decided not to include certain books in the curriculum. In those days, the "banned" books were very thoughtful classical literature, but the solution they used is just as available today.
