My "assessment" was to complete 2 questionnaires while nurses were visiting me at home for other mental health reasons. I don't know who evaluated these questionnaires. It was later confirmed I was on the spectrum, but I had to ask about it. I was told my GP doctor would receive a letter confirming my ASD "diagnosis" if I wanted it. I was also told that facebook was the 'place to go' for help and support. I struggle to contact family and friends never mind strangers, so facebook hasn't been any help or support!

I am, however, slowly learning so much about ASD from yourself and other youtubers with ASD, which to me is what I can cope with. So tyfs everything you do. It is greatly appreciated. 😊

Quicker to get in...yeah...I could not even get on the waiting list for the waiting list for the list to gives you a placememt for diagnostics...

One should not have to have a serious mental health crisis to receive an autism assessment. Proper training as Orion said. The health professionals should include watching videos created by Autistic people as part of their professional development.

Problem is it being so expensive when I was going through my diagnosis I'd got months between consults because they never set the follow up appointments. I had one doctor tell me oh you can't be autistic you went through high school he assumed I finished school I actually left school in year 8 in Australia.
Having finally received my diagnosis and currently awaiting my full report for some assistance from NDIS for on going therapy and help in some areas I can say any body that is struggling more than I would not make it through that process.

I don't know how much up to date is the person that made my diagnosis. She drew a line and told me "you are around here". That and two pages and that was it.

My sister worked in vocrehab for the state of Indiana, she helped me find someone who can give me a diagnosis here in Aurora Colorado.

Lazy & money driven society in the healthcare system. Rare to stumble across someone who does their job properly in the healthcare field. (They may diagnose for what insurance will pay for, even if it's an incorrect diagnosis 💲💲💲💲💲.)
