Something many people forget about Sherlock Holmes -- he's not a sociopath. He actually sees the best in humanity and has a deep seeded desire to protect human life. In a way, Moriarty is just like him aside from that point.

The "human condition" speech is a highlight of the movie. I really appreciate the way the film leans into all the conspiracy theories about whether World War One was a plot by arms manufacturers looking to get rich... and then at the end says "but even if that was true, what difference would it make?" It's smarter than what you usually expect from this sort of film.

The subtle facial expressions of Moriarty going from intrigued to nervous to rage... great acting.

This is the move Moriarty could not prepare for.
Unlike Holmes, Moriarty is indeed far too fond of himself and his fortunes to end his own life.

Sherlock Holmes, in the end, proved _otherwise..._ bringing Moriarty with him.

Never, ever give Sherlock Holmes an opportunity to observe personal items. In 2009 it was Reordan's pocket watch that led him to the workshop that was the source of Blackwood's "magic". Here, it was simple logic and noting a discrepancy between a book on plant care and plants that were distinctly uncared for. God I love these movies.

I love this scene. Reminds me of the final confrontation scene in Lord of War, or the elevator scene in season two of Angel. Never think that the struggle against the worst in human nature will ever go away.
