Scientists have been using the lineage names for different variants of SARS-CoV-2, but many politicians as well as social media users resorted to label the different variants as "UK Variant" or "Chinese Virus" or "Indian Variant". These names create unnecessary political controversy and stigmatization. To curb this problem, World Health Organization (WHO) has now released a naming scheme for various Coronavirus variants based on Greek alphabet. Hopefully, these names will catch on with the public and the journalists.
