General Public - Tenderness [Special Dance Mix] (1984)

I was a fan of The English Beat, and when they broke up I was bummed. But then from the ashes, Dave Wakling and Ranking Roger formed General Public, and their debut single was Tenderness - all my bummed disappeared and was replaced with the joy this song exudes!

Somehow, I'd never heard the extended mix until just a few years ago. It's a great mix from John "Jellybean" Benitez, who was pretty much THE guy for awesome remixes in the '80s.

I don't own any of the rights associated with this music, I simply share so that it will be heard.

The Clash and The English Beat both broke up in 1983. Mick Jones of The Clash joined Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger as an original member of General Public. Mick started up Big Audio Dynamite less than a year later and asked not to be included in the album liner notes as he felt he hadn't been with the band long, but Dave put him back in as he played on the album and was a major influence on General Public in their early years. Mick Jones played on this track too - Tenderness. Dave Wakeling is still touring today (2024) as The English Beat and as General Public and puts on an epic show. Totally worth seeing.
