People paid into that system with the promise that they would get it back. We should be able to sue the government for our money.

Congress needs to be criminally held accountable.

Back when I was in school, the 80’s, my economics teacher told us, we would not have Social Security, and he was right. Been paying in for 40 years.

There’s enough money for war but they can’t afford to give us our own money back to us for retirement

My husband has been in the hospital for 3 years. I applied for his SSDI the first week, and only just now after 3 years, he finally got approved, despite him being totally bed bound with a sudden terminal illness. The worst part is, not only did he contribute to SS for decades, he also paid for a private disability plan through his employer. This plan hasn't been paying because they claim he should be getting SSDI. Our health and life insurance was through his employer, who only needed to keep him employed for 90 days. Medicaid doesn't kick in for our state, because we 'technically' earn too much through SSDI, and he's too young for Medicare. It's wild that you can do 'everything right' and still end up in this situation.

Xennial here. When I was a freshman, we were told to think about our future because social security wouldn’t be there for retirement. This isn’t new. Unfortunately, we’re also not thinking about people on SSI or Disability. Their monthly checks are even less and they will have to reply upon those of us that do work to help them. I won’t even talk about insurance, we all know it needs help. The system is broken and our elected officials should have been trying to fix this issue for years.

They stole the money and never replaced it end of story

If politicians(from both parties) would stop taking money out of it it would be fine. They “borrow” from it and never pay it back.

If the money and Social Security wont be there by the time i could reach that age, then i should have the option to Opt out and not pay in it at all and instead put more of that into my own retirement fund

And WHY if a spouse dies...does their wife/husband not get to collect their S.S. as well? How is it that the GOVERNMENT gets to say "this is ours now"??? OUTRIGHT THEFT if you ask me 😡

I've been saying this for years!! It was supposed to be an "optional" federal savings plan. They figured out they could use it for whatever they want to and then they made it mandatory. Glad someone is calling this BS out!!

This has been talked about for 30+ F-ing years, and now it’s about to rear its ugly head. The saddest part is the ones most in need don’t even know what’s about to happen

Thanks for sharing. People need to understand

Now he's worried about the deficit. Give me a break. Politicians the last 30 years have been under funding social security. They passed it on to future Politicians.

This has been being talked about my entire life and I’m 44. So when is something going to change because I’ve been hearing this for as long as I can remember and yet here we are.

Remove the 160k a year cap exemption so that those people have to pay also. NOBODY should be exempt from paying for social security

My former coworker, an elderly lady, retired last year and still haven't received her retirement check. She's now working a part-time job.

My grandparents each have a pension and they both get close to the max amount in social security. Those 4 incomes together come out to just under $100K per year. Pensions have gone the way of the dinosaur and people under 40 probably won’t get social security. So, when I get older, I’ll probably get 0 guaranteed income. So many old people are going to have to work until they die or be forced to live in extreme poverty if they’re physically unable to work.

You better have my money when I retire. I have been working since I was 15, this is ridiculous. If you did not put in, you should not be able to claim it.

"Our damn money" went to tax relief for large corporations.

I'm a senior with MS who depended on SS Disability Income for the past 20+ years. Because I couldn't work, I have no retirement savings and no other means of support.
If the government raised the ceiling on income going toward FICA (and did so on a regular basis), the Social Security Fund would be stabilized.

But, as we all should know by now, the richest people always "need" MORE than the rest of us...

I have always had a pretty good job. I am horrified at how much money I have paid into the system and how little I will get back. I have done the math and I will never be repaid for all I have invested into the S.S. system. This is messed up!!!!
