For people that have a bulky 5.25" DVD/Blu-Ray player that connector seen will not work on those drives. A 7 + 6 cable only works on 13 pin drives like laptop drives. For a bulky DVD drive you need a SATA converter adapter.

Also, if you purchase a 22 pin HDD to USB cable made for reading internal HDD/SSD's - the PC won't recognize the DVD player.

The only valid options are to run 24" to 36" SATA data/power cable(s) from inside the PC to the drive, purchase a $15-30 SATA converter, or purchase an external shell which fluctuate between $40 to $60. Prices may change depending on region, etc.

For external hdd/ssd inter-OS operability (Mac, Windows, Linux), exFAT would be the best option, not NTFS, without installing 3rd-party programs/apps; exFAT can also accommodate files more than 4gb. However, FAT32 (only upto 4gb file size) and NTFS are better if connecting the external drive directly to television sets for watching media. 😊

I got an old HP DV6580ee laptop. I replaced the DVD with as 12.7mm IDE to SATA caddy containing SSD. The DVD and caddy have the same size with the same IDE interface. The caddy is not detected. What to do now ?

Every other video just shows how to use hdd caddy inside laptop. they don't even show this connector to camera.

Is it possible to take an internal hard drive from my windows 10 PC and place it in an external enclosure 'WITHOUT FORMATTING' the drive before use?
I have a 10tb internal HD which I have half filled and I really need to move it to an external enclosure without losing my DATA.
Is this at all possible without having to backup and formatting the drive? Thanks
