It's no coincidence, that it sounds like something similar, like Months, if you didn't know.
Sext → 6 (Sextant, ...)
Sept → 7 (September, Septim)
Octo → 8 (October, Octave...)
Novem... → 9 (November, ...)
Deci → 10 (Decimal, December...)

I know that it's messing with the Months, but originally september was the 7th Month following October, the 8th Month. It was Changed when they made the July-Month back to the times of Julius Ceaser (Caeser, Cæser?)
Another point is when you look at the Musical Theory which also uses some of this. I can't get any more examples for i am not an English Native speaker and it's actually 02:00 AM in the morning in my country, but i think you get it now.
