Scotlands Greatest War Memorial?

A man looks at the Border Reiver in Galashiels. Often cited as the greatest war memorial in Scotland. But why does a WWI /WWII memorial feature a 16th century Border raider??

In another life for ten years used to plant that up wi flowers that the fountain and bank street , happy days.We should never forget the young lads who were conscripted for the English royal family again the German royal family. FULL cousins.
