The Inspirations Behind the DCU Superman Suit

James Gunn and the official DC Comics social media pages simultaneously released the very first full look at the Superman suit worn by David Corenswet in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman movie and I have some thoughts.

I had a cool idea. What if throughout the movie Clark keeps struggling to change from his normal clothes to supersuit. Then towards the end he decides to fit it under his normal clothes and rips his shirt open for the first time in a big moment

Idk why people think the blue is dark when it’s like burnt and damaged on the Torso the actual blue of the color of the suit is the legs

My only complaints are

1. A little baggy

2. It little dark but may just be the lighting

3. A little overdesigned with the lines

Other than that I think it looks great and so does he!

This really looks like a homemade suit and I love it.
This is his first suit and I think the suit will change to a more refined design in the next movies(if the story needs it).
I feel sure that this superman will get the best character development.

I actually don’t mind this suit, even though I still prefer cavils. It looks kinda baggy and there are too many lines, but one of the things that I do like about it is how red pops out as well as the boots, I think the boots look cool asf.

I like the idea that the logo he has right now is the house of El logo and he becomes more disconnected from krypton and more connected with the Earth where he embraces the Superman with the S

Yes, the suit looks baggy BUT 1- The position really doesn't help, it should look far better when he's standing and 2- I believe Gunn would go for the "My mother made it for me" approach so it makes sense it looks handmade.
Over all I like this more than cavill's because of his hair and trunks, two of the more iconic parte of Superman that were missing from the Snyder version (also the charisma, but we'll have to wait and see)

That’s a Great Superman Suit that is Colorful and Alien Looking while Accurate to the Character.

It seems one thing the audience does not understand about this design is that it is not taking inspiration from modern super suits and Superman designs (i.e skin tight alien material) it is taking more inspiration, as Gunn says, from the Alex Ross design and designs from the "golden age" where in most costumes were made of cloth. This suit also seems to be made to be a practical effect (I understand ones like Cavil's had the practical suit, however, those suits were cleaned up with CGI much akin to Tom Holland Spider-Man suits) it is quite interesting how more people have not caught on to this.

one thing the reveal of the image showed me is the shear amount of people on the internet who aware unaware of the concept of nighttime and lighting and will just hate on things for hate sake. there are edits of the image image but the background is daytime and those same people glaze that shit so hard cuz god forbid a part of a superman story takes place at night

I like that this suit is different from all other live action Supermen i just find it funny how ppl want the suit to look like the DCEU suit but if they did that ppl will still complain and say James isn't original and it's just copy and paste smh fans are never satisfied even if a suit is perfect they will still fuss about it being to perfect 😂

The hate that this suit gets is totally ridiculous! I like it a lot! Thanks for the report! I do indeed hope that we get a similar introduction scene with the new suit like the scene from the first episode of Superman and Lois tv show. That would be really cool. I love the colours, I love that his hair has the curl and most importantly I LOVE that he has the trunks. I don't really like the collar inspired by the New 52 suit (which I've never liked). I also could do without the texture on the blue.

Exactly what I also think, you can tell by that. It seems to be a homemade suit by Martha like you and some people said. While this suit looks great, this is likely not the traditional Superman suit that James gonna go for. The design concepts you showed, they're most likely gonna be the main suit. I think it is gonna look similar to the first design but a little bit different. Might add a black color to that. Maybe this is not the final project of the suit, but either way, I still think James will make a great DCU Superman film.

I was nervous about the symbol at first. But when I saw the symbol in the context of the suit, I thought it looked like a dieselpunk look. Which is fresh. I love the scene. Superman is so he hasn't time to clean his suit. His life is so interrupted, he has to rise and shine in the middle of the night to deal with some villain crap. He can't even style is hair! So far, I am still on board. I think the suit will get ruined, and he will get a new look at the end of the film.
