House Tour: Inside Margo Selby’s Colourful Coastal Bungalow In Kent | House Beautiful
Показать описание
Step inside the 1930s bungalow of textile designer Margo Selby. The contemporary rebuild of this four-bedroom house on the Kent coast is a beautiful showcase of colourful woven fabrics and exquisite rugs, alongside bespoke shelving, display areas and ample storage.
A beautifully curated home, each room has been meticulously planned with display space for the myriad collections that Margo and her husband, rug collector and dealer Peter Auckland, and their children have amassed over the years.
The hub of the home is the kitchen/diner, which is a joyful display of colour. The double-height space above gives a feeling of light, space and fluidity. ‘We really love this space which comes completely alive in the summer,’ says Margo. Highlights here are the warm block colours, a reclaimed snooker table bought on eBay for just £50 which is used for the kitchen worktop, and work by local artist friends displayed on open shelving.
Margo also shows us the intricately carved headboard in her bedroom (a piece of architectural salvage from a nightclub in Camden), a mural that was once a painted wardrobe imported from India that now lives in the hallway, and gorgeous blue and green zellige tiles from Morocco in the bathroom.
A home designed to inspire, part of the brief to the architects was that the home should feel fresh, contemporary, and have high ceilings, which has been achieved throughout. The generous hallway connects all the living spaces, with large glass doors opening up to the patio, and the spacious garden is home to Margo's work studio and an additional annexe.
House Beautiful has everything you need to turn your house into the home you've always dreamed of.
