forest or grass have huge advantage - there is lots of green and its very good for your eyes as this is the region where you will spend the most time - the most benefit for your health

I feel like the biggest issue with the community's opinion on the starting locations is that nobody differentiates between a place being a good starting location and it being a good location.
The Dune Desert is a horrible STARTING location, but a great location once you've set up properly.
The grassy plains is a great STARTING location, but isn't a great place to rely on for your resources.

In my opinion, you can make every location work. I'd suggest starting what you like atmospherically the most.

Must say I disagree wildly with your "excuses" for why the biomes are not good...

1. Northern Forest you say it's not flat, but goes on to show off a perfectly flat area that is VERY GOOD to start at... then proceed to say they only change Quartz while ignoring all the other RED X's on the map of items removed from the Nothern Forest... It is still a VERY GOOD location.

2. Dune Desert saying biomass is scarce, but it ain't, you have the oasis filled with biomass and even the small "stick bushes" around the desert give a good amount of biomass... then says it's far to water while at 4:13 you have the starting nodes right next to the water with plenty of biomass... It is also a VERY GOOD location.

3. Grass Fields... First reason to build there is "it's pretty" but that is in the eyes of the beholder... Purity matters not at all... A Beginner can't even use a pure node fully but they can use 2 normal nodes just fine. Then you LEAVE Grass fields and claim Blue Crater Lake is "Green Fields" but it is a different biome. Also there isn't much flat area in Blue Crater Lake, so you need to build out over the lake or on a higher platform. If you want a good start with mine nodes that fit in Grass Fields then go south west next to the Void, there are 8 iron nodes, 2 copper nodes and 2 limestone nodes. You have a coal node just to the right of there, caterium both to the right and to the left and you have a small pond which is perfect for the first coal power plant and then you can expand out into the world from that setup.

4. Rocky Desert 10:53 where you placed the radar tower is the best starting location in Rocky Desert, 4 iron nodes, copper node and 2 limestone nodes + loads more a stonethrow away, you will also in 1.0 get 4 coal nodes right next to the water for easy coal power with unlimited water and easy placement. In the cave below that spot is 3 quartz nodes, there will be a sulfur node, you have nitrogen gas nearby too and if you move just slighty south to the Golden Coast you have endless oil and bauxite for aluminium and there is caterium approx in the middle of the Rocky Desert, slight logistics but that is zero issue by the time you need it. Across the Rocky Desert is a lake with a ramp up to the two crater lakes with 3 coal nodes... that lake has 3 pure iron nodes and 4 limestone nodes etc. a perfect spot for a MASSIVE steel factory.

I really really like the Grassy Fields for the optimum start location. Once started there, you can travel north to the Northwest "Oil Islands" to make a great Oil based setup, Turbofuel powerplant setup, Plastic and Rubber, etc... Then you can travel a little further north to the Rocky Desert for an awesome steel and Modular/Hvy Modular frames factory...
That's the way I'll start out in 1.0.. Cant wait for the update!!

Rocky Desert and Grassy Fields are going to be the most appealing after the known nkde changes
Ultimately I'll probably go Grassy Fields for old times sake. Also because I find it the most central location. Aside from Northern Forest the other starts being in corners of the map boxes you in and makes everything else seem so much further. Ive been thinking of using the Grassy Fields two chasms to build a huge central hub for my train infrastructure and span a network across the rest of the map

An underrated thing about the northern forest is the abundance of wood. Great place to spawn in, fill up your inventory with wood and travel the rocky desert or anywhere else really.

Rocky Desert for me here. The addition of all of those coal nodes means an easier coal power/steel setup.

For new players, I agree with all that is said in the video. Start in the Green Fields or the Rocky Desert. For those who understand that the lay of the land is not really limiting to how large a factory can get, any biome serves well. You can allways go vertical. And there is a whole map just for yourself. I mean, you're not limited to the start location whatsoever. I've started a previous save in the Green Fields, walked over to the Western Coast straight away and actually started my first builds there. Great starting location, There are no limits, apart from the constrains you put on yourself by making certain choises.
I stopped playing the "Western Coast" save as soon as the 1.0 release was anounced. Can't wait untill tomorrow to start a new save!

I played a tonne of satisfactory back in 2021 on rocky desert during a difficult time in my life. I can’t help but feel nostalgic every time you panned past that large lake at 11:34 remembering my first factory I built and struggling to get my coal plants working. So for 1.0 I can’t help but revisit the area for a second time.

I’ll do rocky desert because I’ve done grassy fields for nearly all my playthroughs so far. So something newer will be nice.

One of the big unknowns we have is that we don't know the exact locations of the SAM deposits. Sure, they may have kept all the existing ones but they also added some and I'm not sure we know all the spots yet.

I've always wanted to start at the Blue Crater Lake, but it's really, REALLY tough to get there. That's where the cliffs are separating it from the Grassy Fields proper, yes?

I have a different approach to enjoying the game. In the first phase, the Pioneer must establish a baseline of production that supports progression. Scarce materials are not a problem here unless you rush. Therefore, the Green Field and the Rocky Desert are just superior. My goal is to achieve maximum fun, which is different for everyone :), but I think one should not stick to one biome and its immediate surroundings. The Green Field will push you out soon due to the lack of other materials, and that’s good for its very reason. If you are an advanced player, you can achieve this practically anywhere.

Another important thing is: don’t treat tasks like gathering alien artifacts and hard drives as chores. Go slow, explore, and see where your Pioneer can expand their extraction sites and factories. After all, it is a beautiful handcrafted world full of vertical and horizontal features and beauty. It is worth spending time on it.

I choose grass fields. Mainly because of nostalgia.

Northern Forest was my first start and I loved it, just because I love how it looked.

I personally rate the rocky desert after playing the start locations. It has plenty of biomass, plenty of flat space, plenty of high purity nodes, a good variety of resources, it can very comfortably get you through to the point where you'll start expanding over the entire map. Having mycelium available without having to go to another biome to collect it is another big up for the rocky desert.
