Beginner pastel artists NEED TO KNOW THIS Lesson because without it you will almost always get subdued colours in your drawings and paintings.

*when you want the most vibrant colors use pastelmat white or light grey as these wont influence and dull down your colours - but for subjects that are not SUPER brigh tlike this butterfly my fav pastel paper is Light blue.

I LOVE those vibrant colours-and I think I may have a go with the full length Butterfly Video! I would also LOVE to see a video on Dragonflies too! I have trouble with both insects because they always look like some kind of alien things...not beautiful they way we think of them...Thanks Jason!

I like the idea of using the gouache black as a good base black. I have two questions. One: can you do the same thing for white? Two: I am doing portraits of two black dogs, one is full black, the other is black and white, would you recommend the black gouache technique, or is that too much?

Beautiful! Would using the gouache make this a mixed media piece, or could it still be called pastel? Thank you
