Building a global ceasefire movement | Chris Nineham | The Big Picture S3E13

This week on the Big Picture, we speak with British political activist, author and deputy chair of the Stop The War Coalition, Chris Nineham.

Nineham was instrumental in organising the historic anti-war demonstrations in 2003 against the invasion of Iraq - which saw millions flood the streets in major cities across the globe - and is considered the largest protest in UK history.

Now he's helping bring together another global call to action on January 13 - this time to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza after three months of continuous action.

We speak with Nineham about what it takes to build a mass movement, bringing together activists, unionists and community groups and turn the momentum of the last three months of action into a worldwide push to end war, injustice and poverty.

I totally agree, about what the gentleman said about 'relief'. I was just telling my mum this last week. Going on protests does give a sense of relief because firstly you feel that you're not alone in being outraged and secondly you feel like you're doing something even if it something small to help our Brothers and Sisters in Palestine 🇵🇸

Some excellent analysis by Chris Nineham. It's a shame about his (and Stop The War's) position on Ukraine and Syria. There's no recognition of people's resistance in Syria or Ukraine (plus he assumes all those who are antiwar like myself agree on that). It's a great pity that he ruins an excellent interview by referring to Ukraine and Syria. It means I can't share this video. I mean why would anyone believe his analysis when they see how wrong he got it in Ukraine and Syria? 🤷‍♀️
