I like how the early one was a toy that kids could pick up with their allowance money. As a kid, being able to afford small sets when going out shopping was a huge part of the lego experience, that was pretty much everything between birthday / christmas gifts. And with it's size and figure selection, it offers a lot more value than what a similarily valued set like a microfighter does today.

The manuals used to be so charming with the advertisements for other sets. I miss that stuff.

You missed the most important thing, a child's imagination. I was born in the 70's, grew up with Lego Space, what you would now call classic space. 1978, 79 and 80 sets when I was around 7 years old. Remember, no iphones, no gameboys, no xbox or playstation, just me in outer space on my moon base exploring. Ah, it was a simpler time. Never dicount the retro, but then again, it depends you age demographic I guess. Good video as always.

i kinda wish lego would make more simple sets like this today, i love the style and the basic yet still iconic characters with the yellow skin. If lego could release a subline of SW sets labeled as retro or classic with more basic sets in this style for cheep it would be nice

Obviously, sets with such a small amount of bricks and figures would be trashed nowadays, but the way it looks. So nostalgic, so vintage. You can forgive all the sins this set has made and just be happy you have it! :D

This was my 1st SW set! Such good memories & a clear example of play over display value.

Had this set when I was a boy. It was cheap and cheerful and I loved it. It gave me Episode VI versions of Luke and Han. A nice attention to detail is that Luke has two yellow hands in this set, as he wasn't wearing a glove on his right hand at that point in the film. You know, I actually prefer the torso print on this Luke to the ones that come with the 2012 and 2024 desert skiffs.

I have lots of nostalgia for this set, it was one of the first ones I got. When I was a kid I found 5 of these stashed deep under my parents bed around a month before Christmas. I was peeping around trying to get an early look at my Christmas presents 🤣I just remember being awestruck and so excited just looking at the boxes. However my dad came upstairs and caught me in the act and basically just gave me them early since I already saw them. He said he got them on clearance for extremely cheap which is why he bought 5. This Luke Skywalker was the first Jedi I got so seeing the amazing chrome hilted neon green lightsaber was just amazing.

I remember getting this at Toys R Us the one year my parents allowed me to pick my own birthday presents. I had wanted the OG x-Wing, but they were out of stock at the time. Pretty simple set, but I remember enjoying the build process and having a lot of fun with it.
