We absolutely enjoyed our 1993 Typhoon 4.3 turbo build! But investing so much $$$ to be limited by the “Split-journal” crankshaft was defeating. The NASCAR crankshaft castings were the cure, but nobody supported the platform.
So, after bending the 4.3 crankshaft around 650hp, Richard decided it was time to LS swap the Typhoon. 👍

1:26 200hp from the old push rod V6 was impressive in 1996, back then the Ford Mustang GT was making 215hp with its new OHC V8.

I have the 4.2L Vortec in my 09 Trailblazer LT. The engine is great. I have almost zero complaints about the engine. The transmission, however, blows. My vehicle has never towed anything but very occasionally a fiberglass 10 ft Livingston boat. Its fluids have always been changed regularly. It's always been adult owned and driven, never beat on. And the transmission still only lasted to a little over 130k miles. I elected to have it rebuilt with some upgrades, so it's hopefully a little more durable now. The technician said it was pretty much shredded inside and some stripped splines, badly worn bands and clutches. It was an expensive fix, but it was still much cheaper than buying another vehicle. I can't really even make a complaint about the engine. The only thing that ever went wrong was the exhaust manifold cracked. That's not really anything having to do with engine reliability. It runs so smooth it's hard to tell it's even running.

I've had about 6 s10 pickups with 4 having the 4.3. It's definitely the best engine the s10s came with. I liked the original style TBI engines the best. My 92 4.3 s10 ran way stronger than my 02 4.3 did. They both were standard cab short beds with 3.42 limited slip rear. The 92 ran 4 tenths better then the 02

GM had a 4.1L VVT pushrod 60 degree V6 ready for trucks, but it was canceled in the 2009 bankruptcy. It made 250-260hp and close to 300tq.

That LV1 / LV3 V6 with a cam and boost should be an absolute rock star!

Port flow is everything. The LS/LT V6 has the same large improvement as the LS was over the Gen 1 Small Block.

Too cool, I was just reading about the new 4.3. Shorter than a V8 means more room for intercooler!

Luving your channel! I have a 2003 LU3 with close to 200K and it still runs great!

Enjoyed the info on GM V6. I used to have a 1975 Nova LN with a 4.3L V8. Carburetor, not EFI. Got into a lot of arguments on this! Keep the the good videos coming.

The Vortech 4.3 heads came from the original 4.3 turbo motors that were in the cyclones and typhoons that’s where the design came from the TBI VERSION started in 1987 or 88 and went thru mid 1995

Richard, don't forget GM made the 262 V8 back in the 50's (first iteration of the gen 1) and they also had the lamest 267 V8 gen 1 in the early 80's.. these plus that L99 makes 3 GM V8's that were 4.3l displacements.

Interesting comparison between the 4200 four valve and the LT type 4.3 with two valves per cylinder. The newesr V6 is no joke and the BTR cam makes it even mo' betterer.

There was also a mid 70s 4.3 litre V8, the 262 cu in used in the Monza & Nova, only for 75 & 76 as far as I know. 3.67 bore X 3.10 stroke. Had one in a Monza, originally rated 110 hp, 205 ft-lb I think. I put a Street Dominator and a 500 cfm AFB on mine.

i remember the l99. came in the early 90s caprice. we worked on one in auto class. remember a guy has one swapped into a single cab, long bed s10 with a turbo on it in the late 90s. kind of an oddball engine but can be found if looking hard enough.
atlas was a good engine but gm messed up when they designed the colorado too small and couldn't fit that engine in. there is a reason there are 2 versions of the 4/5 cylinder engines and why they dropped a 5.3 in later on.
another great video.

I'd love to throw that LV3 in my '91 S10 Blazer. I think it'd be a great combo along with a 6 speed

Hey Richard when are you going to test a 3.0 or 3.2 Taurus SHO V6 from 89-95? The 3.4 SHO V8 would be interesting as well.

I drive a 95 impala. So I actually know about the v-8 version. I have the 350. But I still run the optispark and tune the stock software. They only wrote the tune for those vehicles for around five years and then obdii became mandatory in 96 and changed everything again. So there’s not a lot of tuning support with the v8 version Pryor to 96.
