Peat bogs in Norway are both extremely numerous and extremely deadly. Anyone growing up here are taught by an early age to avoid them like death itself, there's numerous tiny bogs named after the last person known to drown in them, folklore dating back to the bronze age exists about monsters and spirits that inhabit bogs trying to lure in children and unaware travelers.

That angry Welsh farmer is going to install deadly peat bogs throughout his land to scupper any further straight line missions

Absolute pinnacle of YouTube shorts. Watch a man almost die in a minute.

I remember when I watched the full video and this happened, when Tom made the decision to walk into a peat bog I genuinely expected that to be it for a second before I remembered that this would have made the video sort of tricky to upload, so he had to be fine, but for a moment I actually thought I was going to watch a man die.

Bogs are no joke, people. Never go into one, always find a way around it. Tom was extremely lucky that this was a very small one.

I’m glad it’s uploaded as a normal video instead of a vertical short, more viewable this way

The audio out of context is absolutely wild Tom

Yeah, this is probably the dumbest idea you've had on a straight line mission. :D Especially since it was so small that going around it would very likely still have been platinum.

0:56 the sound of those root digging in must be the greatest sound he's ever heard.

This is literally rule number one of what not to do.

Never do this in the wild, part of safe trekking in the wild is to avoid getting wet, detouring to circle around a bog is a much better idea than trying to crawl through it.

I just noticed the red plants in the clip are possibly carnivorous plants: sundews (Drosera anglica (?)). They thrive in these kind of peat bogs.

If you're going into an area with marshland/bogs always a good idea to take a 6' length of 1" pipe, it can be used as a tap to relieve suction on your foot, probe for solid ground, etc. For that matter maybe some rope to lasso a stump or better yet, just don't walk into a bog alone.

Insane, this guy was literally within a foot of dieing. If that solid ground was a foot farther away, he wouldve been either up to his neck barely able to touch it or completely out of reach, and dead.
Edit, look at the top of the grass from 00:36 to when he finally grabs solid ground. He sunk insanely fast in like 15 seconds.

Fun('t) fact:
Even if someone's brain lacks the amygdala (part that produces fear), when drowning or during asfixia the brain finds the way to create the feeling of terror anyway.

(There are interesting controlled experiments if you wanna see adults feeling scared for the first time)
