Thank you for the advice, i picked up my guitar yesterday. Haven't had a chance to play it due to waiting for rocksmith to come in the mail. But I'm researching techniques such as this and your other video on how to hold the guitar (which was very helpful) that way im prepared when i start to play.

What a great lesson!!!! I'm a beginner player, for about 9 months and one of my biggest struggles is picking/strumming accuracy. I watched this video and I was holding my pick wrong all along. When I tried it out the way shown in the video, instant improvement. I'm pretty sure once I get used to holding the pick this way it will improve even more. Thank you!!!

gone thru more videos on holding picks than I care to admit. This video confirms what others claim as the most efficient way to hold a pick, but his explanation is excellent.

Gypsy jazz players seem to grip the pick the same as you but its not perpendicular to the finger, its much more angled. Dya think that way is specific to that style. Its a fascinating topic, thanks for demo.

Great lesson! I've been playing guitar for many years but only really started using a pick in the last 4 years. I realised recently I wasn't holding it the right way. My thumb position was fine but I wasn't resting the pick on the side of my index finger, but instead on the flat of the finger tip. I made an effort about 3 weeks to correct it, by switching over completely and making sure to play a little guitar every day. For the first few days it felt so strange, it was even making me curl my toes (for some reason). After 3 weeks now I've just about switched over to it feeling natural

never got used to it. wasted literally years trying to hold the pick like that. hold it like a "pencil" as you described.
