Mpox cases on the rise in Africa as nations pledge vaccines | BBC News

The Africa CDC plans to distribute 10 million mpox vaccines by the end of 2025, with Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) receiving initial doses.

The DRC hopes to receive its first doses of an mpox vaccine by next week, said the Congolese health minister.

A case of the new variant, Clade Ib, was confirmed in Sweden last week and linked to a growing outbreak in Africa.

Mpox has killed at least 450 people in the DRC, the former Zaire, in recent months, linked to Clade Ib.

The World Health Organization has declared a public health emergency to mobilise resources and address knowledge gaps.

I dont understand why, after almost 10 years following Ebola and 5 years from the start of COVID, we still can't produce vaccines in Africa. Why are the USA & Japan and maybe China producing essential medicines for emergency disease outbreaks that keep recurring???

Physical contact is hard to avoid when you have elders and children to take care off. You can pass it along easily once infected.
