Vaccines are essential to our health. A vaccination is created using very small quantities of disease-causing microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, or toxins, that are weak or dead. It lowers your risk of contracting an illness by bolstering your body's natural defenses. Instead of treating a disease once it has been contracted, vaccines are intended to prevent it. Your immune system reacts when you receive a vaccination.
A vaccination works by educating the immune system to identify and fight viruses or bacteria that cause disease. To do this, certain pathogen molecules must be injected into the body to stimulate an immune response.
All viruses and bacteria include these molecules, which are antigens. These antigens can be safely injected into the body to help the immune system develop antibodies against them and memorize them for future use. Before the bacterium or virus can spread and infect people, the immune system will promptly recognize the antigens and launch an aggressive fight.
▶️ Here are five points to remember:
1. vaccines train the immune system
2. create active immunity
3. help create herd immunity
4. they're developed and tested for their safety
5. some people may have some contraindications
