If you buy a house in Southeast Texas, be ready for high insurance costs. Depending on where you live you may be required to purchase flood insurance, Wind insurance on top of your conventional homeowner's insurance. Add this in with the high property taxes, and you can end up paying more in your escrow account than on the note itself.

If she is trying to convince people not to move to Houston she is not doing a good job. After living in NYC everything she mentioned sounds not too bad at all

Every time I've visited with several extended stays have been very enjoyable. It's a food paradise for one, and where else is the hotel pool still open in December? The number one reason not to move there is summertime is redicoulsy hot and humid even for those of us that like warm weather. It's a port city, but few easily accessible beaches without a fairly long drive.

Everything she says here is true, but there's more to it. Houston is hot and humid seven months out of the year, this spring the city has been unusually cool and comfortable.
Also, housing is too high for the wage base in Houston. Houston has a lot of mostly low wage jobs. Getting _a_ job in Houston is relatively easy, but getting a job that pays enough to pay a mortgage or rent for a decent place to live is a very different story, altogether. Hint: This means that the homeless population will likely boom over the next few years.

Toll Roads not Tow Roads . . . Hurricanes are unavoidable if you live in the storm belt. Weather or natural phenomena are not under anyone’s control, they exist no matter where you live. Some may move to Houston to avoid blizzards or earthquakes, there is always something. I appreciate your being honest.

Traffic has been horrid in Houston area since the early 1980's. Some of that is just the function of any large city. Forget about the hurricanes as those are really nothing. You can always bug out when they come. It's the humidity in the summer that can be cut with a knife [needs to be a sharp one] that is the killer.

Large homeless population tells you that it is a Democratic Party run city. In fact, a quick look at Wikipedia indicates there have only been two Republican mayors from 1921 until now and not one since 1982. Public transportation in most cities suck. NYC and Chicago may have 27/7/365 but I don't think you would want to be using it late at night.

Crime rate, another indicator that the city has been controlled by Democratic Party rule for the last 41 years and 89 years out of the last 102 years. Chances are most of the mayors listed in Wikipedia with no party affiliation were Democrats.

Houston does love its toll roads but you are seeing more of those in Texas at large thanks to the influence of relo folks from the East Coast.

Bottom line - If you like living under Democratic Party policies, Houston is a Texas town you are going to love.

Ok, lets put this in real prospective, All major cities in this nation has bad traffic. As a former Houstonian of over 45 years, Houston DOES NOT get a lot of Hurricanes, besides Harvey in 2017 which was mostly rain that caused flood damage, the only other hurricane that I lived through which was notable was hurricane Alicia in 1983. There was maybe 3 other hurricanes that hit Galveston in between those two that did almost no damage to Houston. The homeless, this is a problem in every big city in the US, anybody with half a brain knows this. Ok, public transportation just sucks anyway, it's no different from Houston to NY, to Chicago, and so on. The crime rate has gotten worse, but go figure it is a democrat run city, soft on crime hard on policing.
