Hello guys! Note: before specifying paths in update alternatives once check whether the path correctly leads to java and javac or not, like in my case there is no jre folder under java-(version number) directory directly there is bin and under it there is java and javac, follow this simple tip and save ur time and energy:-)

Very nice walkthrough. FYI, I couldn't run java -version untill I installed this package:

apt-get install libc6-i686

If this was mentioned earlier in the video I apologize, as I skipped past the full Ubuntu install and went right to the Java install, as I had a fresh install already completed.

Until here everything was good and same with in this tutorial
I checked /usr/bin/ and I couldnt see "javac" file... Help please

Hi Suraz, I tried doing the following:
$ sudo nautilus
Navigate to the 'usr' which requires permission, right click properties and change to 'me' as owner, gave all access to all user.

After this I was able to copy the java tar file to /usr/local/java. But when I tried to untar it, it started giving me error. And now sudo command does not work..It gives the following error:

sudo: error in /etc/sudo.conf, line 0 while loading plugin 'sudoers_policy'
sudo: /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so must be only be writable by owner
sudo: fatal error, unable to load plugins

I think I might have changed the root permission.

Please help

Hi Suraz... Thank you so much for the video. It's awesome.. I am not able to change mode to 777 after installing java. So I am not able to make directory java. I get the following message "cannot create directory 'usr/local/java' : Permission denied. Please help. Thank you
