What I enjoy most are how you show the various different personalities within that community and let them explain themselves. I loved your video of the diamond cutter. He explained the reasons why the diamond business has been shrinking but at the same time simply seeing him work you understood how much he loved his work. In the general media you only hear stories about bad things. Since I did work making picture frames for a few years, I love seeing those doing various kinds of skilled work.

Thank you for sharing your experience Freida, I think more people within our Orthodox communities need to see this . I have a parent who left the Chasidish community as well as most of my siblings. But we always respected each other for being our own kind of Jew . None of us have anger or animosity and never had we thought of disowning each other . And the Chasidish communities we have been part of always welcome my parent and siblings who left, with warm hearts and open arms. As a matter of fact whenever you speak about Gottleib’s takeout I think of my parent who left the community over 35 yrs ago and how that parent would go to Williamsburg to eat at Gottlieb, at least once a week because they were so warm and welcoming regardless of the fact that my parent didn’t dress or look religious.
