Hank Crawford was the truth, man could he blow a sax! He and Jimmy McGriff were a dynamite tandem in later years.

I fell in love with jazz when I heard one if his songs my freshman year in college. Two years later, he was playing at the summer jazz fest in Kansas City. I drove out there and watched him live in the pouring rain. They were under a tent, but they took a rain break until the rain eased. I was close to the stage so I went up and introduced myself. He was very gracious. He had to go inside the Mutual Musicians' Foundation building, so he asked me to "watch his horn for a few mnts"! There I was. Sitting with Hank fricking Crawford's sax!!! It did cross my mind for a fraction if a second what a COOL souvenir it would make if I left with it haha! But of course, it was just a funny thought! He came back talked with me for another 20/30 mnts. I told him I thought he made his sax sing. He said he loved that comment, he thanked me and then went on stage and played the hell out of that horn. I will never forget him.

Th oi s song reminds me of my dad. Its Father's Day today. I really miss my father. He was literally my best friend. My father used to tell me Hank Crawford blowing his sax on this cut sounds like a little baby crying. I love you Dad.

Bought this side in '61 and have never forgotten the intensity of it. When I found out he was a member of the great Ray Charles band it made perfect sense. Caught him In New York many years later with Jimmy McGriff and the power remained within. Thanks Hank, God hears you now.

Back in the day, I almost wore out this track. Hank Crawford backed by that soulful Ray Charles band. This is one great recording.

His tone is so distinctive, powerfully soulful but not overpowering
