The new iPhone operating system incorporates an optical character recognition function. With it, you can extract and translate on the fly any text displayed on an image or photo.
The integration of an optical character recognition module is nothing new in smartphones. For several years now, Google has offered such a function in its Photos app, which includes the Lens optical recognition module. With iOS 15, Apple is therefore catching up a little and incorporating a similar function.
IOS Tip 15 With upcoming updates, Apple will also introduce Visual Look Up which allows you to take photos of objects and scenes for more information. You can point your iPhone‌ camera at an artwork, plant, animal, monuments or books and the system will indicate with an icon if it has recognized the content. At this point, Siri will display all the relevant information.
Since Live Text relies heavily on Apple's Neural Engine, the feature is only available on iPhones and iPads with at least the A12 Bionic chip or later, which means if you have an ‌iPhone‌ X model or older, or something more generation), iPad Air (2019, 3rd generation) or iPad (2020, 8th generation), unfortunately you will not be able to use it.
