Asian Carp Processing Plant Kentucky Two Rivers Fisheries in Wickliffe, KY is taking a run at the Asian Carp market. With an abundance of Bighead and Silver carp in nearby waterways, the fish market is set to process and sell these fish for consumption. Commercial fishermen have often said if you pay us for the invasive carp we will catch them and that is exactly what is happening in Western Kentucky.

Watch our segment on the problem of the Asian Carp in our waters:

I had the opportunity to work in the former Soviet Union for several years and am now married to a Ukrainian woman. They LOVE carp! (called "Karp" in Russian also) There are bunches of them for sale in every grocery store in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. They also sell what we call Northern Pike, another fish a lot of Americans don't like to eat. They are called "Shooka" in Russian. Also at any of the street markets they are for sale by local fishermen and the old women (babushkas) sell prepared carp in containers. We should get Ukrainian commercial fisherman to come and take them. And while we think Russia has unlimited supplies of beluga caviar (sturgeon, black caviar) much more common and much less expensive is "red caviar"...salmon eggs!

Pair it with some wild hog and you have an invasive species surf and turf

I confess--I like fried fish since it gives me a chance to eat tarter sauce. I thought this video shows a great idea, and I hope the fish processing plants spread as fast as the fish does.

I've always thought that processing them through a grinder and the a drying unit as pet food or fertilizer additive would be the fastest and most profitable.

Now that's an idea!
Another good idea would be sorting a way of mass processing them into the overall us market. Fish sticks... fillet o'fish...

There's a fishery in Plainfield Il that catches jumping carp, puts them in a tank where it feeds them old corn and wheat to get sand and mud out of the fish, and then processes and exports to China. it would be great to see fishermen friends in Kentucky achieve a similar success! Best wishes!

would make a great hydroseed base if it were great for seeding in "hard to grow" areas where erosion is a problem.

There are 4 different types of carp:
1. Planktonic carp. Eats free floating algae, phytoplankton. For food.
2. Grsss carp. Eats aquatic plants. For food.
3. Trash carp. Eats leftover organic detritus, not wastes. For food.
4. Head carp. Eats leftover organic detritus, not wastes, and free floating algae and aquatic plants. For food
and for fish oil to be processed and added to paint to penetrate stubborn rusts until it reaches unrusted
metal and stops the rusting process or corrosion process dead in it's tracks.
The problems with most Americans is that they are used to instant fast foods, they have forgotten the pleasure of patiently savoring freshly caught and freshly cooked foods like their used to do in the 1960s and 1950s and 1940s and 1930s going way back to 1900 to 1800.

Wish they had a processing plant like that in Mississippi or Louisiana.

I kept waiting and was disappointed that the question was not asked of that commercial fisherman "is it financial feasible" to catch the carp? If the commercial guys can make money then this will, I believe, reduce the carp numbers. Imagine in time the EPA sets limits on catch limits. Ha!

I asked for asian carp at the grocery store, they had no idea what I was talking about.  This fish escaped from fish farms in the 1993 floods - it was brought to the US as food!  I'd rather get wild-caught asian carp from Kentucky than wild caught cod from the Atlantic.
