As someone that doesn't enjoy using a router table, but has to sometimes, I appreciate this jig more than you can possibly know.

I can tell you from experience how easy it is to have an accident. I wanted to test the depth of cut so i picked up a piece of scrap about the same size as the one you are cutting and began cutting. My middle finger on my left hand was holding the edge of the piece. As the piece got to the end the cutter caught the end and twisted the piece 90 degrees pulling my finger into the bit (a biscuit jointer). I snatched my finger away not knowing how much damage i'd done and held my other hand over for a minute or two whilst calling my Dad who was nearby. Luckily looking at my finger i had got away with it just mangling a portion of my fingertip and I'm left with a 1cm scar. I can't really believe it didn't do more damage, I just got lucky. I didn't have a safety procedure in place like i do with my table saw. Its worth mentally defining rules when using different tools and sticking to them. This sled looks awesome and i'll be looking to make something similar. thank you for showing me a far better way.

i just bought the plans. I'm pretty sure I could "reverse engineer" the thing after seeing James' gizmo in action. But I bought it cuz I want to support his channel and operation! Keep it up, James!

I got these plans and built this sled a while back. I’ve found it quite useful. I actually built it twice - the second version used a 1/2 inch plywood base instead of the MDF I used the first time. I found the torque of the toggle clamps distorted the MDF. The plywood easily solved that.

Having been a viewer and subscriber for a bunch of years, I can say your approach to safety has helped us maintain our focus on safety. Thank you.

Good job Stumpy. Remember you will never see the cutting router bit that makes your finger disappear as well. It takes a router bit flinging a perfectly supported stationary piece of wood across the room to empress you how powerful it is, after you do a digit health check.

What a clever design, using those tabs. We don’t always use bits with bearings. I have a sled that I made a few years ago but now I think I”ll make your improvements. Thanks so much for your videos, which I always learn from.😊

That face in the thumbnail is brilliant. I have a few spare toggle clamps and now I know what to do with them. Thanks!

The minute I saw the sliding blocks I thought "please make this and sell it, it's genius" then I saw the link in the description and my day got 300% better. Thank you. Also, that thumbnail 👌

I just got the plan from your store. It’s my first purchase and I’m impressed with the amount of information that you’ve included. Many thanks James!

Off the subject, a little but I bought an Infinity Lock Miter Jr. Router bit and I saw where Infinity sells a router sled also. I looked at it online and had the bright idea that as I own a DELTA 34-184 UNIVERSAL TENONING JIG that I don't use all that much but decided I would take the clamp off and use it to hold my extra long pieces of wood to use it on my router table to push the wood through my router with the infinity lock miter bit. It works great so I can put the long clamp back on it and it will still be used for a tenoning jig.

Best of the your videos I have seen. Routers and router table get a lot of use in my shop.

Not gonna lie... that's a pretty cool sled. Here I was thinking that my fingers are about an inch too long, and if only there was some really gruesome and painful way to shorten them, and you go ahead and spoil my plans. :-)
