Born in Brooklyn to an Italian-American family, Sirico had a tumultuous early life marked by multiple arrests and periods of imprisonment for crimes including robbery, assault, and extortion. His interest in acting was sparked during a prison sentence, following a visit by an acting troupe of ex-convicts.
Arrest record
Sirico was arrested 28 times for crimes including robbery, assault, and disorderly conduct. He served time in prison for the first time in 1967 for robbing a nightclub. In 1971, he was convicted and sentenced to four years in prison for extortion, coercion, and felony weapons possession.
Background
Sirico was born in New York City in 1942 and raised in Brooklyn, a neighborhood known for its mob connections. He said that growing up, every guy tried to prove themselves with a tattoo or gunshot scar.
Acting
Sirico drew inspiration from his own life experiences for his roles, including his iconic role as Paulie Walnuts in the HBO series The Sopranos. He also appeared in the 1990 film Goodfellas as Tony Stacks.
Legacy
Sirico died at age 79 at an assisted living facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His manager described him as loyal, giving, and philanthropic.

I had a similar experience playing golf with my connected ex father in law and two of his “business associates” from Florida.
I was riding in a cart with one of them, a dude who had to be 6’5” 250lbs of solid muscle.
Halfway through the round he turns to me and says, “I like you, you’re a good guy” and asks me if I had any trouble with anyone.
I shook my head no, told him I was just a guy building houses.
He hands me his business card and says, “If you EVER have any trouble with ANYONE, you call me and the trouble WILL go away.”
I never called him.

I heard a story that when he was running around town getting in trouble, one night he goes into a restaurant and a made guy calls him over to his table to have a "talking to..." Apparently that's the mafia equivalent of friendly warning from a concerned colleague to get your stuff together or there might be problems.

Apparently it worked because the kid settled down and did his job.

Fun fact: During the Sopranos Robert Iller(AJ Soprano) was charged with robbery and Lillo Brancato (Matt Bevilaqua) was charged with murder and burglary.
