Rattan Weavers of Sogod, Cebu (With Prices)

I travel back up north to check out some of the things I have seen but didn't get time to film when driving up for my Bantayan Trip. This is the rattan weavers of Sogod, Cebu. Not only do I show the effort that goes into these products, I also indicated the prices.

Village People Philippines.

Those P3, 500 chairs are beautiful. Add a designer label to it and the price multiplies. I love these folk art pieces. Cebuanos are known for being creative.

All very nice! We hired a vendor to copy some vintage style photo samples that I found online, and they came out beautifully! Pre-pandemic, they had some really high-end all rattan chairs that I wanted to purchase, but they were already a reserved for an export company in the city, that picked up the orders weekly. They have had some clever cogon figures in the past of animals--even a tall figure of Andres Bonifacio that I almost bought! At one time a clever craftsman had totally covered an old motorcycle with rattan. They now call that road "Mainline" :)

How
Ongoing does it last the lady in the background says they apply natural varnish to last longer but she did not specify how long is the lifespan of the furniture before it start to fall apart.

It a good craft, but my choice would be I’m not buying them, it will not last, the rattan furniture I bought in 1981, made in Cebu a set of 2 captain chair, 2 side tables, 1 coffee table and 1 sofa, I’m still using them after 40 years, but I can see that these are made not to last.
