And all of this from the humble beginnings of the Manhattan Project! Who knew that when the scientists who created the most destructive weapons of all time were done with their horrible work they would request taxpayer-funded jobs in perpetuity? Who knows now how much of the NSF budget pays for weapons research and testing? Who know how politically motivated science must be to get grants approved by the NSF? As a 3rd generation scientist who grew up in the epicenters of science and has seen the NSF from the side of the grant receiver and the side of the grant reviewer, I can say that the NSF is not good for science. Make science great again by returning it to its natural state. The government screws up everything - especially science.
