Lyrics:
[Instrumental intro]

[Chorus:]
In a town this size
There's no place to hide
Everywhere you go
You meet someone you know
You can't steal a kiss
In a place like this
How the rumors do fly
In a town this size

In a smoky bar
In the backseat of your car
In your own little house
Someone's sure to find you out
What you do and what you think
What you eat and what you drink
If you smoke a cigarette
They'll be talkin' about your breath

[Chorus:]
In a town this size
There's no place to hide
Everywhere you go
You meet someone you know
You can't steal a kiss
In a place like this
How the rumors do fly
In a town this size

Oh, I had a fight
With my girlfriend last night
Before the moon went down
It was all over town
How he made me cry
How I said goodbye
If it's true or not
Doesn't seem to count a lot

[Chorus:]
In a town this size
There's no place to hide
Everywhere you go
You meet someone you know
You can't steal a kiss
In a place like this
How the rumors do fly
In a town this size

In a town this size
In a town this size

Songwriter: Kieran Kane
Producers: Jim Rooney and John Prine

It's short, sweet, simple, and very true. Small town life is different than life in the big city, and that's both good and bad. On one hand, it's good because you know everyone; you know what to expect and most everyone is friendly and helpful. On the other hand, it's difficult because everyone needs to know everything about you; it's difficult to keep secrets in a small town and most of us have some secrets we'd like kept to ourselves.

I love this song and I love John Prine. I never heard him do this with Dolores Keane. Great video, by the way.

What a lovely combination, John prine, an honourary Irishman, and dolores, native born.
