A vampire professor at Hogwarts would’ve been cool

I always thought of Snape as a Vampire. He reminded me of one. His class didn't have windows, it was in a basement, he dressed in black, he never smiled. He was dark and broody. It was confirmed when Harry stated Snape resembled a bat when he flew away after his duel with Mcgonagall. At least for me anyway

I mean, if a ghost, a half-giant, a werewolf and a centaur can be professors, why not a vampire too? 😂

On a serious note, I think there was something to be done with a vampiric professor, but Rowling’s mistake was limiting herself by thinking he had to be a dark, brooding, sinister character like Snape. Instead, what could have been interesting is if Trocar was the complete opposite, however that manifested. He could be charming, witty, extroverted, funny, kind, patient, whatever attributes you can think of, the point being that in spite of his nature, he was always trying to be the best person he could in contrast to all the other vampires in the world who all too easily give in to their worst impulses. This could also lead into a subplot in the later books where people like Harry don’t trust him because of how universal support for Voldemort is among vampires but unlike his suspicions of Snape, he was wrong to suspect Trocar.

That’s just one example, of course, but the point is that I don’t think it had to be a vampire as we traditionally view them. He could have been a really cool and interesting addition to the faculty of Hogwarts, bolstering the message that books should not be judged by appearances and that it’s our actions not our abilities that show who we really are.

JK also said she didn’t know what she could do to make her vampires unique from others which is why they didn’t have a major presence in the series.

it would have been cool to see vampires in HP. I love the sound of JKs take on vampires.

A character like Trochar could easily have been inserted into the series' periphery, either as a precursor to Slughorn & Snape (like "Hogwarts: Legacy") or as a successor. An adult Harry could have met him and wryly remarked that he seemed awfully familiar, or Slughorn could have remarked that Snape had grown to be a lot like his own predecessor, Trochar.

How JK handled werewolves in the book, a vampire professor would have been an amazing addition. His interaction with lupin would have been awesome.
Too bad. I find it strange why vampires were barely mentioned in the book.
Oh well.

I never knew about this this is really fascinating. I think it would’ve been an interesting character. Thanks for sharing!

I always found it so strange to put majority of the deaths in the last book. It created a numbness and low stakes since the series ended. I talk to a lot of people that forget that Fenrir killed Lavender Brown, which twin died, or that Moody & Hedwig were killed. There's a strange denial about Hedwig that creates almost a Mandela effect that she was for some reason only stunned? (Its cute that some people think the Death Eaters stun.) Of course there's also confusion over adaptation changes like Crabbe dying in the movie instead of Goyle, and the presence of Blaise.

Dean I enjoy all of your videos including the AI generated images of the characters from the books, if you make it I will watch it, thanks for all your hard work to entertain us.

I wish vampires had more presence in the book but at least we had werewolves so that balances out I guess haha. Good to see your handsome face for the first time 😊

The garlic thing isn't common to all vampires. In Italian culture, vampires have no problem with garlic.

I’d always wondered why Voldemort never considered becoming a vampire since they are technically immortal, not unkillable but certainly immortal, but this video definitely cleared up that question. Too many complications in Voldemort’s eyes I guess. And would he still be able to use a wand if he was turned into one might have also been a concern.

Y’all may not have noticed, but snake does give off vampire vibes. He could have been one.

My other half entered the room while I was watching your vids and says "I didn't know Tom Felton had a youtube"🤣

I think Quirrell was using the garlic and the vampire excuse to cover up Lord Voldemort's smell. Idk if he was emitting some kind of odor because of the Unicorn Blood or something but it also might be the fact that garlic does seem to help people's vitality. So he could be using a garlic to keep himself going while being a host.

I think making her vampires mortal was to make Voldemort’s push for immortality through other means much more of a necessity for him as if vampirism is an option available, why wouldn’t he go through the steps to achieve that, which would presumably be less costly than horcruxes would be? I think she wanted to stress just how obscene and unnatural wanting to live forever is, as accepting death is one of the central themes of the story, and having an entire race of creatures running around who are immortal undermines the thematic importance of how twisted Voldemort is to even want to desire to be immortal in this world, nevermind actually getting as close as he did to achieving it.

Just as an aside, as an American, I will still call it the Philosopher’s Stone. I always hate that they felt the need to “dumb down“ the title for us over here.

She didn’t make them immortal because it goes against everything she wrote about. And instead of destroying horcruxes Harry would’ve carried some garlic to kill Voldemort. To JK everyone must die, it is a part of life and we must accept it, this was one of the main themes, this was the story of Voldemort, that at the end as much as he tried to be immortal and cheat death, he died. Immortal vampires would ruin her world, where no one is immortal even the ones who manage to get the philosopher’s stone
