The author clearly knows something of the true nature of bards. Bards were druids in training or druids who quit being druids (dropped the religious aspect). The reason why bards are similar to druids is that there was limited written language so druids were historians and storytellers. Plus music always had a religious origin. Not hard to see how a Druid “drop out” could earn a living playing songs and telling stories.

Nice job, sir! I bought the whole load for Xmas! Absolutely thrilled with it: overcomes the problems of D&D (B/X) vs AD&D as well the introduction of Unearthed Arcana races and classes. As you say, you can mix together AD&D elements and D&D: it's not necessary to force everyone to adopt race as class, for example. I totally recommend these "Advanced" books as well as the base system.

Looking forward to you Dragonlance Adventures vid next time: it was a real favorite of mine back in the day. Thanks as always!

Great video; I had heard of this supplement but thought it only added weird race-class combos (effectively backporting from AD&D to a D&D approach) so it sounded strange to me and I was going to just ignore it. Your review showed that it also provides the more AD&D-like race + class combinations as an option, which makes OSE a lot more appealing to me.

When my Adventurers League game wrapped up on Saturday, I saw a group setting up with these rules, and that sweet DM screen. Might see if I can get in on that.
Also, love the Dragonlance book you're about to review! Such an interesting and novel twist on the standard AD&D game.

Thanks for the review! I first saw OSE on Drivethru a few weeks ago, and wondered when this came out. I thought I'd missed out on this for some time, but it looks like a recent entry to the OSR clones, and a superior one due to various reasons, IMO.

I like the idea of more options but I would be wary of inserting all of this into the basic game. As some options to pick and choose from it though I think it could be a good resource.

Putting together a party now and I've decided to try a bunch of the new classes & race classes to see how they play. To up the old school vibe I think we'll start with one of the old Basic adventures. I have them all, but not sure what we'll start with. Probably Keep on the Borderlands or Horror on the Hill, followed by Night's Dark Terror.
