Raging forest fires in BC interior spark apocalyptic scenes, force thousands to flee

Nearly 5,000 people have now been forced from their homes in British Columbia's interior, as aggressive wildfires continue to worsen, devastating communities and creating apocalyptic scenes across the region.

Fires have also spilled over into key highways connecting the region to Vancouver, shutting them down, and extending two-hour trips to take about a day.

As Robin Gill reports, the situation remains extremely volatile and residents remain on the run, even as cooler conditions move in to provide some relief.

Summer was always my favorite time. Now it is something to fear. Has been since about 2015.

Stop refusing to leave only to pull firemen away when houses start burning and they are needed most.

If youre told to leave and you refuse to leave, you should be left to deal with it on your own. You made the choice, face the consequences on your own.

How selfish do you have to be to draw firefighters away from saving other people's homes because you think that your home is so important that you're going to hopelessly try to save it even though you have no experience and no equipment?

Killiney Beach is actually much closer to Vernon.
This is the White Rock Lake fire that's close to Vernon ( and not Kelowna ) and is responsible for about 100 buildings being lost ( maybe more ) and the most people being evacuated in the province. This fire turned day into night late Sunday afternoon and caused the evacuation alert for nearly the entire city of Vernon last weekend (44, 000).

I don't believe for a second all of the fires were started by lightning. Same thing is happening in northwestern Ontario.

Do some cloud seeding to make it rain...they did in They can make it rain wherever and whenever they want...and our governments know it. They should all be in jail.

As I sit here on evacuation alert with 3 fires threatening my city and most highways of escape going right through those fires, I will remember how that tool Trudeau did not send the army to help our brave but exhausted firefighters to help when BC asked for help. We will vote you out.

The fires in Siberia are larger than all the fires in the world combined. Those are old trees releasing an insane amount of CO2 just adding to the problem. Guys this is just going to accelerate. We need serious measures in place to reduce CO2.

When is B.C going to try to figure out forest fire prevention why don't they make fire lines to each town to prevent properties burning.

Weird they show a lake filled with water, less than a mile than from the valley houses . yet the provincial government owns no emergency pumps of any size they could ferry in by a big chopper set them on the lake and run hoses merely a mile away to save hundreds of homes in the valley floor, Stupid and sad and surely room for more residential assistance to run hoses long before a fore gets that close . Saw the same scenario in Kelowna fire and wondered why no large floating pump stations as homes there were on an easier grade to defend with hoses .They can pump high volumes of oil and sewerage but not water ?
