How to clean dslr lens rubber easily

It’s a bad idea to use rubbing alcohol or acetone (nail polish remover) on Silicon because in few years will cause drying and cracking

I use a cotton bud dipped lightly in Armorall car rubber restorer... works like a charm and also keeps the rubber from drying out. be sure to use the non slip variety or you will have great run as your fingers slip0 on the focussing ring! It is also amazingly cheap as the amount you need is tiny...

Also, some things you use can actually dry out rubber. So use a leather or rubber regeneration formula after any alcohols.

After a brilliant tip, I used 303 Aerospace protectant. Absultly brilliant results on my sony 70-200, its as good as new . Found it on Amz. Very easy to use, but must where gloves .

Bad idea. Acetone reacts with rubber. It will turn rubber brittle, lose its elasticity and eventually crack with time. You don't want that for your precious lens.

Never use aceton on rubber, plastic or any painted material!

Any good car spares/accessory store should stock a suitable rubber, vinyl and plastic cleaner/restorer. ArmourAll comes to mind. Used it myself on one of my lenses, works a treat. About £5.

Wouldnt it be easier to take rubber puece off, and use say an old tooth brush. Thats what ive always done. Plus you could get water under rubber. Some lenses have one tape to cover delicate area under rubber. Like on the Nikon 70 200mm prime. Just my o2.

The easiest way to do this is with a cotton or other cloth and WD-40. It works magic with just one swipe of the cloth. Spray WD-40 on the fabric and lightly go all over. The ring and rubber will be like new.

Nikor Af-p 18-55mm kit lens is made of plastic right? The zoom Ring. Can you clean them using acetone/ nail cleaner?

You did not remove fungus from the lens zoom ring, you removed the residue from perspiration that all lenses get when used. This is easily cleanable with rubbing alcohol on a rag or earbud, I've been doing it for years. What it doesn't do though is remove the sticky residue from camera bodies and lenses.
