Mike's car is a quad rotor Rx7 NA 26b dubbed Madbul.
It has definitely changed cosmetically a few times since this was filmed but the same heart for the most part.
Mike said it was pretty terrifying filming this trying to get from cliff face to cliff edge at high speed, plus trying to keep consistent for the cameras was pretty tough.
Mike is an epic driver and real humble! He loves talking to everyone

The Kiwis got cool versions of the cars we got here. Thee car culture in New Zealand is properly up there!!! But as an Aussie... We would never tell them that outright!😆🇦🇺🇳🇿🤘

I'm biased, I love this video.. I'm a kiwi (living in Aus) and own a big power FD RX-7, you're are right in that both NZ and RX-7's are truly beautiful.
That rotary btw is a naturally aspirated 26b quad rotor, basically 2x RX-7 engines sandwiched together to double it's capacity.

The fact that he said it would be a dream to drive this road and I drive at least two or three times a month makes me feel so lucky. And I certainly agree it is one fun drive.

That rx7 called Madbul is powered by a 26b quad rotor making over 800hp

My favourite road anywhere in world. Last drove a high speed cruise over it chasing motorbikes about 6 years ago. Will be going over it later this year a lot slower in my campervan. Until 2001 most of it was unsealed and was one of 2 road in New Zealand that rental cars weren't insured on.

Motor is a 26b pp na built here in nz by ppre mikes a pretty Down to Earth dude 95% of the time you can Just walk into his base here in nz at Hampton downs and talk to him Also, theirs way more crazier vids than this his first year at Goodwood Festival of Speed is a pretty good video. The guys from the uk had no idea what they were in for with a 26b

Maybe you gonna like gymkhana series from ken block, ken block is rally driver, gymkhana is more like freestyle drifting in many obstacles or narrow street and high speed ofc

That has a naturally aspirated 4 rotor. Rotarys are a huge part of the car culture here

Drift junkie here and I love watching you dissect and appreciate the sport from an overall automotive perspective. I'd totally down a beer with you. I highly recommend looking up two people:
James "The Machine" Deane - Known today as the best and most accomplished driver of all time. Incredible driver from top to bottom.
Daigo Saito - What of the God Fathers of drift and is coined as "Drift King." Absolute madman and master of his craft and has arguably one of the best car collections you'll ever see thats NOT owned by a druglord or war crimminal

You have to watch the Ken Block Gymkhana series that started with a Subaru STI at an abandoned hangar.

This is MADBUL in one of its older generations, I think 5. It has a Quad Rotor setup(26b) which is essentially two 13b engines bolted together. I'm pretty sure its making between 500-600hp, you should check out his Goodwood runs.

I used to work on a hydro power project near the Crown Road. Last time I drove that road, it was all gravel.

I used to "rally" my Ford Falcon down that road but that was before it got spoiled with tar seal, it was also where I learned what brake fade was...

Mad Mike recently just competed in Formula Drift Japan Round 2 shortly after having surgery for his broken arm and he still laid down some crazy lines, for sure worth watching

I have actually driven down that in a camper and got brake fade at the bottom... had to change pants when we finally stopped
