The Fourth World Superpower is being created right now

The World superpowers are United States of America, China, India, and now This: The East African Federation. A group of seven countries in Eastern Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan) are currently trying to unify into a single nation. With the fourth highest population on Earth and a near monopoly on a rare mineral, this enormous country would be massively influential, with soft and hard power for days.

But things aren't all sunshine and rainbows for the East African Community. The nations that make it up are undemocratic, undeveloped, and would face a ton of trouble trying to get all the paperwork together to unify. So, what does the future hold? How could the EAF be affected by climate change? How powerful could it really get? Will it be able to compete with the USA, China, and India? I will answer all of these questions and more in this summary of the Federation.

Basically it's going to be India, Myanmar, Nigeria or Indonesia on a large scale... On an African scale. There's no way this is going to work. Multi-ethnic countries have a hard time working together. The PRC might be multi-ethnic, but they're mostly all claiming to be Han Qin. So with the majority of the population almost being homogeneous are they really multi-ethnic?

Having a monopoly on a resource is usually not a good thing for countries. You may think "they're sitting on a gold mine", but in reality the most ruthless person in the country will get to sit on that gold mine, give it to the highest bidder, get a cut, and sell its people as cheap labor force to process it.

Even if other countries are not horribly exploitative the big guy in charge might still say "nah, we're being treated poorly, let's kick the foreigners out and do everything ourselves" and then end up wrecking their economy because the shift in power was too sudden. It's pretty much what's happening in the US right now, "Europe is a horrible trading partner" and allat 💀

The india case worked because there was a common underlying civilisational identity. I’m not very aware of these countries - do they share a common history and culture?

3:19 im kinda skeptical that east africa will be that populous in the future. I think the fertility rate is decreasing faster than anticipated too

What about the EU, Japan, Brazil, or Arab League? All exist and are currently much better than the East African Federation.

Also the combines GDP of all these countries will make it slightly richer than Switzerland, which has the 20th largest GDP. So even if this Federation ever exists it won't be the 4th superpower.

EAF is a pipedream, merging countries is already pretty hard, merging multiple dictatorships has historically never worked since dictators are afraid of anybody being able contest their power, merging multiple dictatorships with multiple democracies is just plain stupid. have you ever heard of anyone proposing a korean reunification plan that would involve north korea staying a dictatorship and south korea staying a democracy? no, because it's just plain stupid.
