Did you know your dog can be a blood donor? In this video, Insoo Hyun, Director of the Center for Life Sciences at the Museum of Science, explains how dogs sometimes need blood donations. Just like humans, dogs undergoing surgery will need blood transfusions. There are eleven different dog blood types, and certain breeds, like pitbulls and dobermans, are known to be universal donors. Donating your dog’s blood only takes 15 to 20 minutes, so find a dog blood donation center near you and help out your community today!
