BMW E46 M3 vs F30 335I. How good is the BMW 3 Series?
So here we have a video on 2 cars that are talked about a lot in my life, the BMW 335i M sport and the E46 BMW M3. The car's i've used in this vid are not my own, they've be given to me for the day to do a video on. As they are both different in so many ways so i've tried my hardest not to compare them but they are both very good taking points.

I'm a huge fan of the BMW E46 M3 from 2001 to 2006, i've had a few them myself, every time i sell one, i find myself drawn back to buying another one. My first fast car was a Honda Civic Type R in 2007 then in 2008 my next car was a manual E46 M3. Doing this vid was an enjoyable but difficult task for me because my heart will always be with the M3 but i just found it impossible to ignore how good the 335i is.

From this video i have learnt why so many manufactures have turnt to to turbo charging their engines, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche even Ford and vauxhall now turbocharge their low end petrol engines.

I think the obvious way to summaries the M3 is when they built it back the early 2000's at had no turbo and no supercharger but that 3.2 engine still managed to produce 343bhp. The e46 BMW 330 petrol m sport is a 3 litre straight 6 which produces 231bhp, the 3.2 litre engine in the M3 produces 343 bhp, I'm not too sure what was done to that engine but i know that 200cc's isn't what gave it all that extra power. My point is, that engine was at it's peak and it was a naturally aspirated engine.

I sold the 335 to go back to the e46 because character and feel cannot be replaced. No LSD in non M cars is another big deal plus the massive weight and lack of steering feel... things have moved in the wrong direction for driving pleasure

I replaced my e90 328i with a 2013 335i msport package. incredible machine...I went for the test drive and just couldn't get back to my old car :)

You're completely right about power delivery. If you want to get the most power out of the E46 M3 you've got to rev it out past 5k pretty much every time. You can drive the 335i more relaxed and still move quicker. It all comes down to the torque curve that turbos provide over natural aspirated cars. I'd still take the E46 though. I think it's more special although I might be biased considering I own one :) Great comparison though!

Brilliant video, I've owned an e46 M3, f30 335d rocket ship, e93 2012 ZCP M3 and soon to be M4ZCP in March 2017 and have to say your video is one of the best not bias videos I've seen. The one thing I will say is there is simply no feeling like driving a a true M. PS my current car is a vaxhall corsa 2017 1.8 lol...

Personally I think the e46 m3 is the best car of all time when you factor in excitement, value for money, wow factor, usability etc. The twin turbo/twin scroll BMW's are fantastic but for most people the power will never be used to its full potential.

What a hoot! you're so blown away by both cars, it's great to watch. I'm shopping right now for something in that space including ZHP. While you make a great case for the 335i MSport, I naturally shy away from heavily tech laden vehicles and turbos. Doesn't mean I won't go modern, but I prefer earlier. The comments section is a big help also, thanks to all. BMWs I've owned are 2002s, 320i, E23 733i, E34 M5 and a slew of Minis ( all manual trans but one 2002), ending with a heavily modded track ready JCW. My must haves are 3 pedals, Sunroof, low(ish) miles, heated seats. Thanks for all the info and I look forward to scoping out your other vids.

Taking into consideration the price/performance, the E46 M3 is the best choice! As they're going up in value, they are an excellent investment too! The 335i is a 3 year old car, I wonder where it will be in 10 years!

I'm an owner of a 6spd manual E46 m3 Coupe, and though I am pretty biased towards my car being better than the 335i, I do agree with what you have said, and like that you gave an unbiased review, unlike too many other reviewers.

ive owned my 46m3 nearly 7 years and love it. love it so much another one appeared in the garage to be stripped as a track/race car. i do agree with everything said regards modern performance cars and their potential. ive been blown off by golf r's and tuned focus st's in straight line performance but out on track where my lightly modded car spends a lot of time it really does come alive and can show the young pretenders how a proper m car can lay down its performance...
