GE - How to Steam Clean Your Oven

Available at Kieffer’s Appliances! To clean minor spills inside your GE oven, try the steam-cleaning feature. Steam cleaning is easy and faster than a self-cleaning cycle. Plus, it helps prevent buildup if done after each spill. Follow these steps:

1. Wait until the oven is completely cool, then wipe excess grease and soils from the oven.
2. Pour one cup of water on the oven floor.
3. Select the “Steam Clean” option on the display.
4. The cycle will run for about 30 minutes.
5. Take a damp rag to remove any lasting moisture or food particles from the interior.

My GE Adora steam clean works! This video should say to “Lock the oven door.” Also, if Clean shares a button with Self/Steam, press 2x, then “start.” 1:03

I had a self clean before this new one, and everyone is correct when they say steam clean doesn’t work. My old self clean would heat up to 500 degrees and everything would turn to ash. So I tried a compromise that might be helpful…I added the water (I used 3 cups) and turned my oven up to 425 for 30 min. It wasn’t perfect, but 100 times better than these directions. A little messier than self clean, so have some paper towels on hand, but a LOT better than oven cleaner! You can also save time with an oven scraper that is used for glass or ceramic surfaces. Hope this helps someone from hours of elbow grease and sore knees😘

This is where reading the instruction manual is important. GE is a household brand. To read these comments people are saying GE sucks and GE is sticking by their brand. So there must be a disconnect and I researched to find out why. Turns out everyone saying GE sucks must not have read the manual. Per GE instructions Steam Cleaning is for small spills and you’re supposed to use 1/2 cup water not 1 cup. Self cleaning or manual cleaning is for a deep cleaning of the oven when it has large spills. I hope this helps those that hate GE and for those considering GE steam cleaning ovens.

Well, I'm glad to see from the comments that I'm not the only one who found steam cleaning useless.

Thanks.
I think I was expecting more from a feature with a dedicated button.
My new oven has both, although all I really wanted was the "self" variant. From personal experience this video is pretty accurate. If you have a spill it will help soften it enough to be of some help---fall back to cleanser and elbow grease as needed.
I think the issues we have are with the special button and the naming: "Steam Clean" vs "Self Clean". The assumption is that one clean, in a broad sense, is like the other. The fact is that "Self" takes hours and needs Lots of ventilation but it converts most of the polymerized fats, as well as any other organics, to ash and salts that may be easily wiped free. The "Steam" mode, in stark contrast, takes only 30 minutes and has no smoke but only softens water soluble material on the floor and makes un-polymerized fats a bit easier to sop up all over. (Once polymerized, fats will have to wait for the "Self" variant, or other method)

Not useless but we're all looking for that "free lunch" button.

The reason i went with a steam clean was because i was told that the steam would come out firm the sides and with the water the grease would be easy to wipe off. Also i didn't use the steam clean feature right after i cooked my roast. I waited till today. The sides are all sticky. The water was left in the bottom tray.. not happy. I had a self cleaning oven in the past, but told this was much better..wrong!!

I have a brand new range, week old, and I ran the steam clean feature. All the water was still left. I ran it again and after it finished, I set it to bake at 250. The temperature guage read129 degrees. I believe it has to hit 212 degrees to create steam. So I am going to try setting the temp myself and see if it works. Glad I didn't buy it for this feature. The only bonus is the water well in which to hold my water.

The steam clean feature didn't seem to do anything to clean the oven. GE, please tell us what we might be doing wrong.

I used the steam cleaning feature on my GE cafe wall oven for the third or fourth time and it shut down the oven and disabled the internet system in our home. I had to call the ISP to figure out why the internet wasn't working and he explained everything was working up to the router and one of the devices connected to the internet was the problem. My husband reset the breaker to the oven and then everything worked. This is poor performance using the steam cleaning feature. It also doesn't work that well. It does not remove bottom oven spells and grease splatters on the side wall very well. My engineer husband believes steam and electricity do not like each other.

I am so not happy with the steam clean option, It did squat for cleaning. I would not have purchased this stove if I knew the typical self clean was not inc

I am in total agreement for the lack of results when it comes to "Steam Clean". The video indicated that you do not have to remove the racks. However, in order to pour water from a glass or a measuring cup, you have to remove the racks.

I just purchased the 600 Series Air Fry WiFI oven. Naturally when you air fry, you will experience grease spots on the side and the glass windows on the oven door. So, I tried the "Stream Clean" function. I even attempted to mix vinegar with the water. Absolutely, no improvement. In fact, it stained the removable bottom pan. According to the manual, there is an oven cleaner for self cleaning ovens. I would not use any abrasive cleaners, because it will indeed affect the finish.

Prior to this model, I had a GE Oven from 2004, and that took four hours at 500 degrees to turn any stick on food into ashes. Considering todays electric rates, I think that GE was doing the consumer a favor.

API have a GE steam clean oven. Worst thing I ever bought. Doesn’t clean and water left behind had to be soaked up with a bath towel to remove it. I want my old self clean oven back.Burn the grease off and wipe up the ashes.

I have electric coils at the bottom of my new oven unlike the one in the video. Do I need to remove it before steam cleaning?
