Generational shift? Gaza war campus protests spread across United States • FRANCE 24 English

The expression went viral in the 1960s: generation gap. Those in power had fought in World War II and were shocked to see college students in the US rebel against the call to serve their country and go to war. How much has the current movement on college campuses exposed a new generation gap? Will the consequences be as far-reaching? For the first time since the Vietnam War, Columbia University invited in police to break up a pro-Palestinian encampment. That has since sparked sit-in protests across the US.

You are wrong Annette. These are some of the most intelligent people in the world, who are students at the best schools in the world. They understand exactely what is taking place.

It’s naive to think that American students don’t know much about what’s going on in the world. In general there are many more students deeply engaged in world news and politics than in the past. If you study government, politics, sociology, philosophy, or many other subjects you learn to pay a lot of attention to the news in/from other countries as well as our own in order to be better informed. The majority of these protestors are not victims of propaganda and there have been many anti-Israel protests coordinated by groups of Jewish students as well. The fact that the U.N. and I.C.C. see problems with Israel’s conduct should tell you that the protests are not just extremism or “wokeness”.

Don’t make this a ‘generational’ thing, it is as simple as people becoming informed and being willing standing up for what’s right.

One of the ironies of these protests is that some of these campus police goons have been trained by the IDF.

According to at least three human rights organizations and a report published by the United Nations, Israel is an apartheid state. Please talk about these reports.

I want Israel (and Palestine) to survive and thrive. But I also fully support the right to protest. The pro Israel side looks terrible trying to shut these down. And given that many of our top politicians have said HORIFFIC yhings like "turn Gaza into a parking lot" "flatten Gaza" etc., you really can't complain about 'scary' 'offensive' speech.

Premier Christian News
4/29/24

"The Archbishop of Canterbury has said he is "deeply concerned" over the arrest of a young Palestinian Christian woman in the West Bank.

24-year-old Layan Nasir was taken from her home by soldiers earlier this month and is now facing detention for four months without charge.

Most Rev Justin Welby told Sky News her plight is a breach of assurances made by Israel about the treatment of Christians in the region.

"[I am] deeply concerned to learn that she is now facing administrative detention for four months, without charge and with no due process for her, her family or lawyers to challenge this. ...

Under administrative detention, people can be held for four months and which can be renewed every four months for up to two years.

Fr Fadi believes it is a sad indictment: "I think the British need to repent for that and pressure the Israelis, because administrative detention in particular is against international law. ..."

Robert Kraft owner of the New England Patriots is Columbia's biggest donor, why not protest the Patriots facility and games in the fall? It's the donors that are calling for police crackdowns.

Sweet conservative gramma: American students don't know enough.

American students: Stand with Gaza on the right side of history.
