Duxford Flying Days: VE Day | CA-18 Mustang ‘Jersey Jerk’ | First Air Show Appearance

Following its reveal earlier this year, yesterday saw the first flight of the CAC built CA-18 Mustang in its beautiful new colour scheme, 'Jersey Jerk' from the 356th Fighter Group, USAAF. Formerly known as 'Snifter' and based in Australia, the licenced-built Mustang is now homed at Sywell Aerodrome in Northamptonshire, as part of the Fighter Aviation Engineering fleet which is operated by Air Leasing.

After the aircraft performed a successful first flight early in the morning, it took off again and headed to Duxford, ahead of the flying display for the VE Day-themed Flying Day event. 'Jersey Jerk' didn't take part in the flying display but she was still a very welcomed addition to the flight line for the sell-out crowd.

JJ's first flight comes just in time for the Abingdon Air & Country Show on Saturday 18th May - this is expected to be her public air display debut. She will also be seen at the Shuttleworth Collection's Military Weekend on 2nd June as well as the Sywell Air Show on the 22nd and 23rd June.

I love the paint scheme.... til i learned it was a Aussie stang. Why not keep it original and paint it in RAAF colors, people will still appreciate its a Mustang and you won't have to constantly explain the CA-18 vs P-51 designation.
