I caught that. The guy who said it is a bit of an ultralight purist. He might not call an X-Mid "ultralight", either. He's generally not a tent guy, for that matter. Shrug.

In the very same thread, you and another poster clarified that the weight difference between the X-Dome and an X-Mid1 plus your Z-Flick poles is only a couple of ounces.

My take is: Well done, Dan Durston.
Yet another killer design.

I don't use treking poles, so an ultralight freestanding tent that is less than $500 is great. Also, being able to pitch the shell and inner tent together is a nice convenience.

This one isn't for me but there are a lots of people that only use freestanding tents. Dan's willingness to listen to his customers and also remain humble with criticism is unmatched. This dude loves what he does and it shows.
My Drop X Mid2 is still the best tent I've ever owned!

I'm ordering the X-DOME 2 with the DCF rain fly as soon as it goes on pre-by. Thanks, DD and to you always DB. ~ JUICE.

As a motorcycle camper, pack size is more important than weight to me. The short pole option is great because it will fit in typical panniers. At least until it’s wet. 😀

Of course it's heavier than a trekking pole tent!
But it's an awesome weight for a fully free standing tent.

I pretty much believe those people who said that it's not ultralight forgot that there are 2 types of tents by the way we set it up. Free standing and non free standing.

The free standing has its own classification, ultralight freestanding, and non ultralight freestanding. As well as the non free standing. Ultralight non free standing and non ultralight non free standing.

People nowadays always assume that ultralight must be a non freestanding ones.

It’s basically everything I’ve ever wanted in a non-car-camping (because then I go a bit bigger) tent. I’ve certainly backpacked with heavier!

As an older guy, I miss my trekking poles when they’re being used in my tent. There are some camp spots where you have to walk down or up a bank to get water, and suppose you wanna do a little side hike. It’s one thing I notice after my tent is set up on the trail how much I miss my poles, or at least one pole. For this reason a tent like this would be nice.

I’m curious to try it. I like the layout and design. Definitely on my list of tents too try

Haters complain it isn't light enough. Meanwhile, I wonder if it could scale up to a 3 or 4 person tent. Would love to see Durston in the family tent market.

I’m going on a hike next year this seems to be the best tent to have for I can’t wait to buy it!

I'm a hater. I hate the fact I can't afford this bad boy of a tent.

I don't know the weight to make a tent "ultralight" but its light enough that you wouldn't notice a difference.
X-Mid 1: 28 oz (795 g)
X-Mid 2: 35 oz (1005 g)

Awesome to see more options but this isn't it for me, I am from Europe. Like he mentioned in the video we like our tents to be outer pitch first (or Nordic pitch like we say in Scandinavia). It is a nice tent but I would like a more weather proof tent, it looks like it can easily catch alot of wind how high and how steep the sides are, it could work but then it need stronger poles, especially not this design where it is one pole that is split into two by the ends, I am more curious about Tarptent Dome that isn't mutch heavier but seem better resistant to heavier wind and rain, I am more interested in the aluminium poles which will be stronger than the carbon. I would have loved it if this was a two pole system with an aluminium option. Also a solid inner addition for colder winter camping would be nice plus

My pole connectors slid down into the poles the first night out and I had to splint them. 😢. Also, the groundsheet is very thin and not worth the added cost.

You make it in ultra or Dyneema and I will buy one the next day.
But my TarpTent double rainbow ultra is only 3 ozs heavier for 7.6 sq ft more area. And the ultra fabric is bullet proof. Pack size is almost identical. The xdome in Dyneema or Ultra and I’d switch. Plus it’s Canadian made and I’m thinking of switching just for that alone.

I just wish it was a true 2 man tent. Or at least we had the option

My hate, is that I bought the 40L pack. Then the bigger one came out later.
Naw, hate is too strong a word.
